One of Mother nature's most violent weather phenomenon's. While not common in Western New York, we have had a fair share of tornados across and near our area, and continue seeing a increase in tornadic events across the area! We have also chased several tornadic events across several other states! Waterspouts however are extremely common in our area due to the finger lakes with several dozen waterspouts being photographed and reported per year! Our team of chasers has intercepted several tornadoes over the years and report them all directly to the National Weather Service to provide enhanced warning times!
A weather phenomenon that is extremely common to the Western New York area is snow storms! With our close proximity to both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, snow is not of short supply in this area! From the famous blizzard of 1977, to the most recent Christmas Blizzard in 2022, snow storms are extremely common and many have been violent and deadly! Sometimes dropping as much as six feet of snow in just a few days from major lake effect events! Our dedicated team of chasers braves these frigid conditions to provide a live look at conditions across the area to keep people informed so they don't have to venture out in the storm! You wouldn't necessarily think being near the finger lakes would effect weather so much, yet it does! The close proximity to both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario effects our weather so much, it makes forecasting in this area tricky and demanding! Lakes change the dynamics in the atmosphere so much we have had wind storms that cause extensive damage and beach erosion! This also causes several instances of lakeshore flooding. Not only do we chase and photograph these events, we also provide valuable scientific weather measurements directly to the National Weather Service!

While mother nature has her fair share of nasty weather events, she also loves to put on a display! Sunrises and sunsets in this are can be some of the best you will ever see! You can bet our team of photographers are not only out catching her wrath, but also capturing her beauty! We have also experienced the total solar eclipse in 2024 as well as several auroras from intense solar storms! That is, if cloud cover doesn't impede it from the lakes!
Trained Experienced Chasers
Our team of storm chasers have been through extensive trainings and classes from the National Weather Service and several other providers. They have spent years learning how to read weather models and plot points of interest to intercept storms at their peak intensity. They have also been trained on how to properly intercept storms while minimizing the extreme dangers of chasing storms.

Unfortunately in todays word, drama and exaggeration drives views which in turn creates revenue. While many traditional news outlets and even amateur storm chasers tend to exaggerate weather events to drive their views, we focus on honest reporting! Yes we want the views, but in the name reaching more people and keeping people safe! Not posting model runs several days out to create hype or exaggerating what actually occurred during a weather event! Our team of forecasters provide the most accurate forecasts with advanced systems!
Many storm chasers across the country are self built and self funded. However, TV Stations and even some well known storm chasers are funded by major hedge funds and corporations focused on one thing, $$$! The WNY StormChasers are funded by you, our viewers! We grow solely by our viewers and often ask our supporters and viewers what they want to see and what direction the team should go and what to focus on! We realized the extreme fascination of storm chasing by so many and we want to deliver that thrill to all including young kids who may have a desire to seek meteorology or even the next generation of chasers!
